Do Internet consultants need professional liablity insurance?

I was recently asked to blog about Professional Liability Insurance and review the information on a web site called Business Insurance Now and had to consider how it fit into our Blog. After a bit of research about Professional Liability Insurance I determined not only was there a fit but many of my readers may actually really need to consider this, specifically those acting as SEO, Internet Marketing or General Business Consultants.
You see Professional Liability Insurance protects you from is "insurance to protect you and your company in the event a client alleges they have suffered a financial loss as a result of an error or an omission committed by you in the delivery of your professional services". Such as if you advise a client to take certain steps with their site or marketing that ends up tanking it may be nice to have coverage if they try to turn around and sue you for the results.
Good marketing agencies usually explain there are no guarantees in marketing and generally have contracts that attempt to protect liability. Yet every day we hear about lawsuits and people winning them where we just can't believe what we are hearing. I guess you could think of this type of insurance as "consultant malpractice insurance" though it is a heck of a lot cheaper then what a doctor pays for his insurance.
In addition to providing Professional Liability Insurance the Business Insurance Now site appears to offer information on many different services and is very well organized. Many consultants are operating with out any real coverage, with the new year just beginning it may be time to really start thinking about protecting your business. Business Insurance Now is a good resource to begin understanding what is available and how it can benefit and protect you and your business.
As I review things with my advisors and take care of the tax bill this month I will considering what type of protection my company may be in need of, you may want to do the same.
