Megaglobe a new name in search engines
Just when you think that everyone has surrendered to Google and assumed that Yahoo and Microsoft are lucky to have the smaller shares of search they do and just as you were sure no one would jump into the search engine business, here comes a new player called Megaglobe.
So just what is it that makes Megaglobe different from other search engines? Well it is not easy to tell from just looking at their website since at present time you can only submit sites to their crawler but I was able to learn the following things about what Megaglobe has planned.
First as the name indicates Megaglobe is going to be an international search engine, available in 45 languages.
Second they have developed a new sponsored listing option that is called, a "Placement Frequency Program". Unlike pay for postion search sponsorship, (a patent owned by yahoo, which was orginaly devloped by Overture and is now used by Google, Microsoft Search/Live.com and other second and third tier engines) Megaglobe is going to let advertisors bid on frequency.
I am not exactly sure on how this "frequency" will be applied but I have my guesses. If you ask an Internet marketer what frequency means they would probally say how many times you turn up in a given search in a given engine. This is different from rank (or position) I may be ranked #1 on Google for a term but only have a frequency of one.
In other words if you searched for that term I would be number one on Google but the other top ten listings would be other sites. However another marketer might own two sites, one might rank in the top ten, the other might even have two listings in the top ten such as this listing from MSN,
As you will note for the term "local phone service" Sage Telecom is ranked both number one and two on MSN search (an enviable ranking to have). To a search engine marketer this is frequency and is certainly better then raw postion. Even if I am not number one for a search if I am number 3, 6, 7 and 9 I may get more traffic then just being number one or two. This is why many companies manage multiple sites so they can take more front page real estate.
However, I do not see this as the kind of frequency that Megaglobe is talking about. My guess is you will bid on a term and for how often your sponsored result will be shown. Such as the term "local phone service" is searched for about 50,000 times a month so if you bid for a "frequency" of 10% you would get about 5000 exposures. That may not be entirely accurate but it is my best guess with the knowledge I have right now.
One thing I would suggest is get on over to Megaglobe and submit your sites for indexing since they are taking submissions just by entering your primary URLs. As I learn more about Megaglobe I will keep you posted.

Thank you for the information. I found out that Megaglobe has also developped a new technology to fight against fraudulent clicks, it’s called the “Pay Per Valid Click” technology. Looks like they have a pending patent for this technology.
Looks very promising.

That is interesting information, any idea on how they are going to pull this off. Perhaps some type of requirement for visit length or at least one action on the advertisers site? What is your source for this information?
It will be interesting to see what type of market share they can acquire of search traffic.
