AT&T Gets Closer to Owning Bell South
AT&T crossed yet another stepping stone on the way to completion of their buy out of Bell South when the Kentucky Public Service Commission gave its approval Tuesday to the planned merger of AT&T Inc. and BellSouth Corporation.
San Antonio-based AT&T is acquiring BellSouth, the dominant local phone provider in nine Southeastern states (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee) and its partner in Cingular Wireless, in a $67 billion deal approved last week by shareholders of both companies. The companies expect the purchase to close by year end, but it still needs approval from federal officials and other states.
It seems that the fish simply continue to gobble each other up in the Local Phone Service market.
